To avoid getting baffled, learn the key differences between them –

  • Trailer

Recreational vehicles or movable homes that have limited living space and facilities have been referred to as Trailers. From the 1930s to the 1990s, these mobile homes were inhabited by people or used by families to take trips or camps. Trailers can still be seen to a great extent in Western countries and are being reinvented. There has been a significant change in the size and available facilities of the mobile home part to suit the needs of modern men.

  • Mobile Homes

The complete structure of a mobile home is assembled inside a factory on the metal frame of the vehicle and then transported to any location. Mobile homes are used either for temporary or permanent residences and are often situated in one place. If any legal issue arises regarding its placement, it can easily be moved to a different spot.

Although they may sound similar to a Trailer, the difference was in size. The term ‘Mobile Home’ was coined to differentiate these larger-sized dwellings. The 60s and 70s saw an increase in the width and length of these homes, and eventually, you could not move them around without a permit.

  • Manufactured Homes

Due to the introduction of new laws in the mid-1970s, new standards were set up for these mobile homes. The term ‘Manufactured Homes’ was introduced for all those houses that were being built according to the new standards. Multiple changes were brought in the mobile home part like the siding, roofing, windows, and the houses’ chassis to bring the feel of a traditional home.

These homes were required to be at least 320 square feet and should be transportable.

  • Modular Homes

These homes are traditional homes with built-in parts or modules in a factory and assembled on a foundation at the home site. The house is sectioned out into modules, and each of these modules is built separately and then put together. The mobile home part is assembled at the site, which gives a variety of in the structure. Modular Homes are built to a similar standard to a traditional house.

The terminology related to these manufactured houses has changed over time. With the increase in the size of the trailer came the name mobile homes. The increase in quality standards gave rise to manufactured homes. The term modular home was introduced to reinvent the traditional method of construction of a house.
